Prof. Anil Pahwa

Prof. Anil Pahwa received his Bachelors (Honors) degree in Electrical Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1975. He obtained his Master’s degree from University of Maine, Orono, United States. After which he received his Doctorate from Texas A&M University, United States.

Prof. Pahwa came to the United States from India in 1977 to pursue graduate studies in power and energy systems. Since 1983, he works at the Kansas State University, United States. He is currently a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He has excelled in all areas of responsibility as a faculty member of Kansas State University over a period of 31 years. He is the lead faculty in the area of power systems.

While serving as department head from 2004 to 2007, Prof. Pahwa initiated several new activities including New Student Assembly and Distinguished Lecture Series for the department. He has worked on many projects funded by electrical utilities, the U. S. National Science Foundation, and the U. S. Department of Energy. He is a very active IEEE member having 1 U. S. patent and over 150 publications. He has guided 8 PhD students, 21 MS students, and several undergraduate students for research projects.

Prof. Pahwa was selected as a Jefferson Science Fellow by U. S. National Academies for the year 2014-15. He was also elected as a Fellow of IEEE in 2003 for contribution to power distribution system automation and restoration. In recognition to the development of innovative and practical solutions for facilitation of distribution automation technologies and applications, and for passion in the dissemination of knowledge to promote distribution automation, he was awarded the IEEE’s Power and Energy Society (PES) Douglas M. Staszesky Distribution Automation Award for 2012.

Prof. Pahwa was awarded the Logan-Fetterhoof electrical and computer engineering faculty of distinction chair in 2012. He has had extensive international experience. From 2007 to 2011, he served as the electrical engineering coordinator for a World Bank-funded project to strengthen higher education in Afghanistan. In 2007, he spent approximately three weeks at Kabul University to prepare a new curriculum and mentor faculty and students.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award in the Category of Academic Teaching and Research is awarded to Prof. Anil Pahwa in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the society. Through his achievements Prof. Anil Pahwa has brought glory to the name of the institute.

Mr. Gurindar Sohi

Prof Gurindar S Sohi holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1981; an MS in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois, United States; and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Illinois, United States.

Prof. Sohi has been a faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1985, where he is currently the John P. Morgridge Professor and the E. David Cronon Professor of Computer Sciences. He served as the chair of the Computer Sciences Department from 2004-2008.

Over the years in his work, Prof. Sohi focused on innovative techniques for fine-grain and instruction-level parallelism in high-performance microprocessors and has had stellar accomplishments in the field. Many of his direction-changing innovations have gone to become defining characteristics of important commercial microprocessors and results from his research can be found in almost every high-end microprocessor in the market today.

For nearly quarter of a century, Prof. Sohi has interacted heavily with industry and discussed his research with architects and given talks in design groups at most of the leading microprocessor manufacturers, including Digital Equipment, HaL, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, MIPS, Motorola, Silicon Graphics, and Sun Microsystems.

He has received widespread recognition for his work. He received the 1999 ACM SIGARCH Maurice Wilkes award “for seminal contributions in the areas of high issue rate processors and instruction level parallelism” and the 2011 ACM/IEEE Eckert-Mauchly Award “for pioneering widely used micro-architectural techniques for instruction-level parallelism”. At the University of Wisconsin he was selected as a Vilas Associate in 1997, awarded the WARF Kellett Mid-Career Faculty Researcher award in 2000, and was selected as a WARF Named Professor in 2007. He is a Fellow of both the ACM and the IEEE and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2009.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award in the Category of Academic Teaching and Research is awarded to Prof Gurindar S Sohi, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the society. Through his achievements, Prof Gurindar S Sohi, has brought glory to the name of the Institute.

Dr. Chandrashekhar

Dr. Chandra Shekhar obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from BITS Pilani in 1971 and 1975 respectively. Thereafter, he moved to CEERI, Pilani where, after serving as a post doctoral fellow, he joined the institute as Scientist ‘B’ in August 1977. He has been serving as Director of CEERI since 2003.

In 1980, Dr. Chandra Shekhar initiated research work at CEERI in the field of LSI/VLSI design and CAD and established one of the best known R&D groups in the field in the country. Under his leadership, the group developed country’s first full-custom dedicated LSI processor chip, the first semicustom CMOS VLSI chip for digital telephone exchanges of CDAC, the first 16/32 bit general purpose processor and the first Application Specific Instruction Set Processor (ASIP). He has established new research laboratories at CEERI in the field of High Power Microwave Devices, MEMS, Micro-sensors, Integrated Systems and Nano Electronic Devices which have served both the strategic sector and the society immensely.

Dr. Chandra Shekhar also played a key role in the formulation and execution of Government of India, Department of Electronics’ national initiatives in Microelectronics research and education through various research focused programs and the well known “Special Manpower Development Program for VLSI Design and related software”. He has pioneered the use of VHDL and synthesis-based VLSI design methodology in academia, industry and strategic sector R&D in the country. He has published more than 90 research papers in reputed national and international journals.

Dr. Chandra Shekhar has served as a member of Governing Bodies of CSIR, AcSIR, BITS-Pilani, NIT Kurukshetra, UIET Kurukshetra University and Mody University of Science and Technology. He has also been a member of CSIR Society, Society for Semiconductor Laboratories of ISRO, and on the Board of Directors of Central Electronics Limited. He is a Fellow of IETE, Honorary Fellow of Metrology Society of India and a life member of Indian Physics Association, Semiconductor Society of India and Indo-French Technical Association.

Dr. Chandra Shekhar has been awarded UNESCO/ROSTSCA Young Scientist Award in 1986, CEERI Foundation Day Merit award in the year 1988, ISHEER Science Councilor Award in 2005, Prof. L K Maheshwari Foundation Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2010, Doctor of Science (honoris causa) by NIT Kurukshetra in 2012 and IETE Diamond Jubilee Gold Medal award in the year 2013.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award in the Category of Professional management of businesses is awarded to Dr. Chandra Shekhar, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the society. Through his achievements, Dr. Chandra Shekhar has brought glory to the name of the Institute.

Mr. Pradeep Kashyap

Mr. Pradeep Kashyap graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1969. He is Founder & CEO, MART India’s leading Emerging Markets consultancy. He has advised dozens of Fortune 500 companies including Unilever, Coke, Pepsi, GE, Intel, John Deere, Philips and Tata on rural strategy.

He is known as the Father of Rural India. He is a Global thought leader and a sought after speaker having given over 500 talks across the globe at CEO forums, Global Investor meets, conferences and industry events.

Mr. Kashyap has been Marketing Advisor to Ministry of Rural Development, GoI and has served on Prime Minister Office and Chief Minister Committees. He is a World Bank and United Nations consultant and member of national advisory committees of RBI, NABARD and SIDBI

In 1989 he started Gramshree melas for sale of rural products in urban areas. 300 melas have been held in 75 cities creating sustainable livelihoods for 100,000 rural producers. His efforts have created sustainable livelihoods for nearly 200,000 rural poor.

He co-created the world famous Project Shakti (case study at Harvard) with Hindustan Unilever to appoint 46,000 poor women from micro finance groups as company dealers.

He has authored the most definitive ‘Rural Marketing’ book which is a standard text at all IIMs and other premier MBA institutes in India and abroad.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award in the Category of Social Entrepreneurship is awarded to Mr. Pradeep Kashyap in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the society. Through his achievements Mr. Pradeep Kashyap has brought glory to the name of the institute.

Mr. Raju Reddy

 Mr. Raju Reddy received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1981. He obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech, United States. He is currently the Chairman of BITSAA International.

Mr. Reddy’s “Sierra Atlantic”, a start-up in Silicon Valley bound and grew to employ over 2400 people with operations in several countries within a span of 17 years. The company was ranked consistently among the best managed companies and has won several Awards over the years for the product and business success. Sierra Atlantic was recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Employers in South China, Silicon Valley’s 75 Most Admired Companies and Top 25 great places to work in India.

Sierra Atlantic was acquired by Hitachi Consulting in December 2010 and it is the largest ever acquisition by Hitachi Consulting to date. Raju currently serves as a strategic advisor to Hitachi ITSC global.
Prior to founding Sierra Atlantic, he spent 10 years at Intel in software development, marketing, and general management. He brings a wealth of experience, industry networks and insights to Inventus.

Mr. Reddy serves on the BITS, Pilani General Body. He is the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, BITSAA International. He currently serves on the board of Grey Orange, EspressoLogic, Seclore and Prizm Payments (a Hitachi company); and previously served on the board of RedBus (acquired by Naspers) and Cognovision (acquired by Intel) and Hitachi Consulting.

Mr. Reddy is actively engaged in the community and serves in leadership roles in various non-profits and enjoys working with young entrepreneurs in a mentorship role. He currently serves on the Board of India Community centre in Milpitas, California. He also serves as a Member of Advisory Board at India-West Publications, Inc. He serves as a Trustee of Puente. He is a Charter Member of TiE. He also co-founded SIPA (Silicon Valley Indian Professional Association) in 1987.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award in the Category of Entrepreneurship is awarded to, Mr. Raju Reddy, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the society as an Entrepreneur. Through his achievements, Mr. Raju Reddy has brought glory to the name of the Institute.
